This week I decided to program something I am weak on. I hate OVERHEAD SQUATS. Literally loathe them. It is the dumbest lift. (See, when I don't like something, I just bad mouth it and criticize it to make me feel better for not doing it.) For almost two years I have lifted the PVC pipe and maybe the bar. I am not good at OHS. So therefore I don't do them. I like to play the recording of all the leadership books I have read that say: "focus on your strengths." Well heck yes, I like doing that. But this has been a bad habit for me to get into when it comes to fitness for me, especially if I want to compete in some scaled crossfit competitions. And since Crossfit is about being good at everything, pretty sure they are going to program some of things I hate. I am kindof sick of holding my breath until they announce the workouts. Because if they are something I am not very good at, then I know I will do poorly. I don't want to do that anymore. I want to be efficient at all of these things. I want to prove to myself that I can do hard things and not the things that easily come to me.
We all have the hard things..whether it be in workouts or in life. We like to procrastinate, avoid, and do other things we enjoy instead of putting in some hardwork. It's hard to have a conversation with a friend or loved one that your nervous about. It's hard to just start something you want to do but afraid you might fail. It's hard to sign up for a race or event because you don't know if you will complete it. Well today I decided to take that OHS and beat it into submission. It hurt a little, and it wasn't pretty the whole time, but I did it, and I am pretty sure I will be better for it.
- What's the hard thing in your life you need to conquer?
- What's the weakness you need help with?
I explain the workout I did and a fun burpee, (yes I said fun and burpees in the same sentence.) finisher in this video:
